My Story
Hi, I’m Jill. I grew up on your typical Standard American Diet (also known as a “SAD” diet) full of macaroni and cheese, chips, soda, lots of cookies and candy, and few vegetables.
Despite having classic thyroid symptoms since high school (cold hands, feet & body, as well as sluggish digestion), I was always told that my thyroid was "fine" because my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) always tested within the "normal" lab range. (Note, the so-called “normal” range is a VERY WIDE range. I know of people who have felt miserable despite having a TSH within the “normal” range.)
After a stressful period of my life, I had my first allergic food reaction in 2011 and a second one a month later which REALLY got my attention and started me investigating.
Then in 2012, I started developing frequent headaches within 20-30 minutes after eating.
So, in the fall of 2012 I signed up for a 10-day guided cleanse with a health coach and I felt A-M-A-Z-I-N-G during the cleanse! I slept like a baby and bounded out of bed in the morning bursting with energy ready to start my day. It was then I realized the strong connection between the food I put in my body and how I felt.
I discovered and removed the foods I was sensitive to from my diet from 2012-2013 which eliminated my headaches and bloating after eating. In addition, I started sleeping like a baby and waking up feeling refreshed for the first time in YEARS.
I was finally diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis in 2013, though I believe I had had it for years. I have worked diligently using diet and lifestyle changes to reduce my antibodies, reverse my symptoms (particularly always feeling cold and having sluggish digestion).
Later in 2017, after an extended period of extreme stress, I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and Graves’ autoimmune disease. Only this time, I was armed with the education, tools and strategies that I learned back in 2013 while reversing my Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. I was able to reverse my hyperthyroidism within 3 months and continue to remain thyroid medication free. In addition, I reversed my Graves’ antibodies back to the normal range shortly thereafter and my antibodies have remained in the normal range ever since.
